I took this photo on Staverden estate in the municipality of Ermelo on the Veluwe. As you can see these flowers of a rhododendron are budding, after all it was spring when I took this picture. To take this picture I used a reportage flash with a homemade snoot(made from a chips forest), to lighten the shadows on the other side of these buds I also used a small reflection screen. By using the flash and a reflection screen I was able to darken the background. This flower bud of a rhododendron was on a large mature shrub. I did drive specially to Staverden estate for this photo, as the rhododendrons bloom a few weeks a year. The rhododendrons on Staverden estate bloom purple, in itself a beautiful sight. I chose for this photo to be portrait/standing because it looks better.
