The sun had long since left its place in the sky, leaving behind an empty, grey landscape. The wind blew gently across the meadow and moved the bare tree in the foreground of the picture. It looked lonely and abandoned, as if it had given up on life. But somehow it also seemed sublime, a survivor that had braved the winter. In the distance stretched a field that - still uncultivated - underlined the dreariness. At the end of the field, two white buildings were clearly visible. They looked like lost souls, joining the formation of trees that lined the horizon. The cloud formations in the sky looked eerie, almost threatening. They seemed to be in some kind of battle that only they could understand. It was as if nature was fighting itself. The image was sombre and frightening, but it also had a beauty that was difficult to describe. It was a beauty that can only be found in solitude and abandonment, like the tree in the foreground of the painting.
