Germany used to be lynx country. The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) used to roam almost all of our forests. The last animal was shot in the middle of the 19th century.
According to the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, 125 to 135 adult lynxes roam Germany again - but unfortunately far too few to ensure their long-term survival.
