Under a blue sky punctuated by light clouds, stand the imposing temples of Prambanan, an architectural jewel on the island of Java in Indonesia. Built in the IXᵉ century, this vast Hindu complex, dedicated to the divine triad - Shiva the Destroyer, Vishnu the Protector and Brahma the Creator - embodies the grandeur and religious fervour of the Mataram kingdom.
The slender, finely sculpted towers soar skywards, forming a harmonious whole of perfect symmetry. Surrounding the main temple of Shiva Mahadeva, smaller sanctuaries complete this spiritual landscape, evoking Hindu cosmology and the quest for the elevation of the soul.
The dark stones, with their patina of age, contrast magnificently with the green of the lawns and the brilliant blue of the tropical sky. Despite earthquakes and the ravages of time, Prambanan remains an exceptional testimony to the faith, art and ingenuity of the ancient Javanese builders.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this sacred site fascinates visitors as much for its beauty as for the atmosphere of serenity it inspires.
