The silent passage

by Klaus Tesching - Art-AI

This picture does not show a place of arrival, but a state of in-between. The room opens up frontally, clearly and without detours, but its actual effect is created by what it holds back. The high, curved walls direct the gaze forwards without accelerating it. Movement is possible, but not required.

The side openings look like options that are deliberately kept in the shadows. They exist without offering themselves. The space does not decide for the viewer, it presents him with a silent simultaneity of possibilities. The path leads straight ahead, but this path also remains neutral, free of promises.

The light enters from above and is distributed evenly over the surfaces. It does not create any dramatic contrasts, but rather an objective brightness. Concrete is not staged here as a raw mass, but as a calm, supporting material. Every trace, every irregularity remains visible and unsmoothed.

The symmetry of the space creates a quiet tension. There is balance to the left and right, yet this balance does not have a calming effect, but rather an attentive one. The viewer is not guided, but orientated.

In its reduction, the picture denies any narrative. There is no climax, no conclusion. The space exists as a passageway without a destination - as a moment in which perception becomes more important than movement.

"The Silent Passage" is not a place of action. It is a place of conscious standing, in which moving forward becomes an inner decision.
