Bacchus, the god of wine, leads this entourage of mythological characters in a triumphant return of victories in India. His chariot is pulled by centaurs, mythical creatures who are half man and half horse. He accompanies him with his pipes and Hercules, who stole a tripod from Apollo, the sun god, who saw his chariot ride through the sky. A river god, symbolising the river Indus and the Indian subcontinent, lounges in the right foreground.
