A mysterious shipwreck is stuck in the sands of Fraser Island. The SS Maheno sailed regularly between Sydney and Auckland in the early 20th century and also served in World War I as a hospital ship. In 1935, the ship was sold to Japan, where it would subsequently be ground into scrap metal. During its voyage to Japan, the SS Maheno ran into a tropical cyclone and was stranded on Fraser Island beach. And so this is where it still lies...
