Thor with his hammer – The Power of Thunder by AidasignArt

In a monumental side view, Thor, the Norse god of thunder, strength and protection, rises as a powerful figure above the pictorial space. His fully depicted form rests upon an intricately crafted bronze plinth, whose Norse knotwork, relief patterns and mysterious runes are reminiscent of a timeless sanctuary from Norse mythology. Hugin and Munin, Odin’s two ravens, accompany the god as symbolic messengers of memory and thought – one sits majestically upon the plinth, whilst further ravens adorn its monumental surface.

Thor appears to be fashioned from solid bronze, overlaid with a vibrant verdigris patina. In his powerful hand rests Mjölnir, the mighty hammer with its ornate golden knotwork, a symbol of his indomitable strength and divine power. His flowing hair, majestic beard and helmet adorned with winged motifs emphasise his heroic appearance.

The exceptionally impasto painting technique lends the bronze and patina an almost tangible three-dimensional quality. Deep shades of wine red, turquoise and green are complemented by deliberate touches of gold, whilst behind Thor a dramatic Nordic sky unfolds, filled with towering clouds, flashes of lightning and mysterious rays of light.

A contemporary fine art piece exploring strength, protection and the eternal fascination of Norse mythology.
