Thread-like flower of the maize plant by Silva Wischeropp

This floral nature photograph was taken on 26 September 2026 in the late afternoon using a NIKON D800 camera (lens: NIKKOR 24.0–70.0 mm f/2.8).
I discovered these enchanting and charming maize plants with their magical, thread-like flowers whilst on an extended photographic walk in the Blankenfelde-Pankow Botanical People’s Park.

The earthy, warm, slightly brownish and olive-green to violet colour scheme lends this natural subject a warm, harmonious and pleasant, understated visual character that fits perfectly with the autumn season. The rich violet and wine-red hues in the leaf stalks are characteristic of the so-called ‘Indian Summer’ and thus make it an absolute eye-catcher.
The bokeh effect – that is, the blurred background around the cultivated plant – transforms the image into a particularly interesting visual composition with a dreamy, surreal atmosphere.

The Pankow Botanical Public Park is part of the Barnim Nature Park.
The park is situated in north-east Berlin on the Barnim Plateau and
is an important part of this landscape.
Location: The park is situated on the edge of the Barnim Nature Park.
Description: Spanning 34 hectares, it combines a cultural landscape with the nature park, making it a ‘Berlin gateway’ to the open countryside of Barnim.
History: The site was originally laid out as a school garden and was incorporated into the Barnim Nature Park in 1998.
