Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.
The artwork appears at its true size, so you cannot scale it in AR. Want a different size? Close AR and pick the size on the product page.
Still nothing? Open this page in Chrome or Safari. AR does not work in the browser of apps such as Instagram or Facebook.

About ‘Tile waves’ by Joes van Asten

The photograph shows a section of the roof of the Iglesia Santa Cruz in Cádiz. By deliberately omitting the horizon, façade or surroundings, the building’s recognisability is almost entirely lost. What remains is an interplay of lines, colour, texture and curved surfaces. Architecture thus becomes almost nature: a tranquil landscape of ceramics, shaped by time, craftsmanship and light.

The blue-grey, beige and green tiles form an understated palette that has acquired extra character through age. Some tiles are bright and smooth, others weathered and dull. It is precisely these differences that give the surface a vibrant texture. The diagonal laying of the tiles enhances the sense of movement and ensures that the eye is constantly guided through the composition.

The small, dark ventilation pipes provide unexpected moments of calm within the rhythm. They break up the pattern whilst simultaneously making it clear that this abstract landscape is part of a real building.
