Toruń has become very well known both in Poland and abroad, thanks to the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus and the taste of his famous ginger cake. The well-preserved historic city center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
The historic heart consists of a well-preserved residential complex of medieval architecture. As a rich Hanzehaven, Torun was one of the most important trade and cultural centers in this part of Europe.
