Tulip fields in the Netherlands. These tulips are not grown for the flowers but for the bulbs. When flowering is almost over, the plants are "topped". This means that the flower heads are removed so that the plant can put all its energy into the bulb, which can then be divided (peeled) into several bulbs for sale. The fields in this photo are in Drenthe where bulbs have also been grown for many years.
