This extraordinary building is named after the architect who designed it, Alessandro Antonelli. Originally it was intended as a synagogue, but due to disagreement over the design this function was soon wiped off the map. The construction even came to a halt for a while, but in the end it was decided to turn it into a monument to King Vittorio Emanuele II and Italian unification. When it was just finished, the Mole was the tallest structure in the world. It is no longer, but it is still one of the highlights of Turin, both literally and figuratively, partly due to all those wonderful film tours that the tower houses.
