foraging birds where one is keeping watch and the other is diving for food. White swans are faithful partners and stay together almost their entire lives. The caring and protective nature of these birds is often associated with romance. This image provides a beautiful close-up of these Mute Swans in their natural habitat during stormy and windy weather on the Wolderwijd near Harderwijk
The transition from the Veluwe to southern Flevoland is formed by the Veluwerandmeren: the Drontermeer, the Veluwemeer, the Wolderwijd and the Nuldernauw. In the summer, this area is teeming with day-trippers; in the fall, it is mainly waterfowl that visit the area. The birds can easily find their food in the shallow water.
Both the Bewick's swan and the Mute swan feed on water plants, particularly wrasses and pondweed, and on grass and crop residues in the agricultural area. In the Veluwe Lake, more swans have been staying in the water longer in recent years. This is because the aquatic plants in the Veluwemeer have returned as a result of improvements in water quality.
