A breathtaking twilight view from the Shanghai tower. The Shanghai tower is one of the tallest buildings in the world (third) and was the tallest building in Asia until 2023.
Here you look out over Pudong in the foreground, which was still largely farmland in the 1990s, and in the background is the older part of Shanghai and "the Bund" is also visible on the riverfront.
The Huangpu River separates the two parts and is busy with many tourist cruises as well as cargo ships.
The remnants of a colourful sunset nicely compliment the vast amount of artificial light of this mega-city. Every evening around sunset, a huge light show is staged in Pudong. You can see this well in the foreground.
It is hard to imagine the incredible number of people (around 25 million inhabitants in the city itself(!)) who live here.
