About ‘Unrecognisable’ by Betty Verheij

A piece of plastic, left behind with no purpose.

Grains of sand are swept along by the wind and settle on the plastic to rest there.

The contrast: small and large, natural and industrial materials. Yet both raw materials can be processed in such a way that we, as humans, can use them.

Sand becomes glass, oil becomes plastic. That is what links these two. As a photographer, I enjoy seeking out small details in the hope that the viewer will take a closer look at the photograph and wonder what exactly they are looking at. The photograph was taken on the beach at Schokkerhaven, Noordoostpolder, situated on the shores of the Ketelmeer.
