The painting is part of a series of paintings Van Gogh made at the Parisian entertainment venue Moulin de la Galette in the Montmartre district of Paris.
Vincent Willem van Gogh (Zundert, 30 March 1853 - Auvers-sur-Oise, 29 July 1890) was a Dutch painter. His work falls under post-impressionism. Van Gogh is considered one of the greatest painters of the 19th century.
In March 1886, Van Gogh left Belgium. He went to live with Theo in Paris, 54 Rue Lepic in Montmartre, where he had his own studio.
