Over 21.5 million VW Beetles had been sold by 2002, surpassed only by the VW Golf with over 35 million units, which has now been in production in its 8th generation since 2019. Back then, it was a humpbacked car that initially had no real name other than Type 1 and yet everyone knew it was the VW Beetle.
Thanks to a special photographic technique, this Beetle has the only true length in the side profile without any distortion, i.e. like a technical drawing, and can therefore be printed in sharp detail even in oversizes up to over 2 metres.
I have been practicing vintage car photography for more than 35 years and here I mainly photograph normal everyday vehicles which were still on the road en masse over 30 years ago. But also cars with extraordinary, beautiful design. From time to time I take pictures of cars, motorcycles and trucks of recent times, when they have particularly beautiful shapes, curves and somehow tempt to dream and drive like a BMW Z8. I find these automotive beauties not only in museums, but also in specialized workshops for vintage cars, with collectors who have invited me to photograph their classics or often in dark, dusty sheds and halls or simply parked at the roadside.
