A beautiful photo of Valkenburg Station.
The oldest station still in use in the Netherlands is also one of the most beloved. Valkenburg's romantic station building dates from 1853. It is built of marl and has corner towers and battlements.
Architect Jacobus Enschede created this castle-like design, entirely in line with the Valkenburg that became known as a health resort for the well-to-do. Not much later, the Geul town developed as one of the first tourist destinations in the Netherlands.
