About the artwork

Amsterdam South Axis
The three towers, called north, west and south, have heights of 100 meters (north), 66 meters (west) and 76 meters (south).[source?] The towers are connected on top of the lower floors, which cover the entire plot, by a "valley" of ascending terraces, in the idea of sawahs as they are common in Asia.

The architectural design is based on the appearance of traditional office buildings that often have rigid glass facades. The design is broken up by the valley created by a good number of terraces,[3] which is very jagged in shape and will be clad in sand-colored natural stone. In terms of appearance, it resembles an inverted geode.

Planters are planned in the valley where native trees and plants will be placed, so that the building will be lined with greenery from bottom to top. In addition to being an architectural statement, this is also an example of sustainable and climate adaptive building. The nature-inclusive elements that will be added will help to reduce the heat island effect.

Valley being realized by EDGE Technologies, formerly known as OVG Real Estate, was designed by architect Winy Maas of MVRDV. The green structure on the outside of the building was designed by landscape architect Piet Oudolf. Construction is taking place by combination Valley Amsterdam consisting of Boele & van Eesteren and G&S Bouw. The complex is owned by RJB Group.
