Vases with Free-Flowing Lines by Color Square

The work depicts a playful collection of vases and bottles, loosely scattered across a warm, beige background. Some objects are filled entirely with earthy colours, whilst others are indicated solely by a thin outline. This creates an airy still life in which form seems more important than realistic representation.
A large rust-brown bottle in the centre catches the eye. Its solid, closed form contrasts with the transparent-looking vase behind it, which is indicated by just a few beige lines. At the bottom right stands a more softly shaped vase in warm peach and terracotta tones. At the top is the most striking object: a round vase whose shape is not neatly defined, but rather consists of a jumble of reddish-brown lines. These lines criss-cross as if the vase had been sketched several times in succession.
An interesting detail is that different shapes overlap without losing their own identity. For example, the large transparent cylinder runs diagonally behind other vases. In the bottom left-hand corner, too, an almost unfinished, angular shape appears, giving the whole composition the spontaneity of a sketchbook.
The limited palette of beige, brown, terracotta and red lends the work a warm Mediterranean feel. The combination of imperfect lines, empty spaces and simple shapes makes this modern still life relaxed, decorative and deliberately unpolished.
