While visiting Beijing, the Great Wall of China cannot be missed. But don't go to the places where everyone goes. Opt for a tour that takes you to a hidden spot so you can have the whole wall to yourself. We were dropped at an abandoned section of the Great Wall of China and were allowed to walk around for a couple of hours.
It is bizarre to walk around a structure that has been there for centuries. You imagine what it must have been like over the centuries. You rise and fall and walk over uneven steps and no matter how far you look, there is no end to the wall.
The grandeur of the wall and the desolate surroundings it swirls through make you feel like you are alone in the world.
