View of the famous Cathedral La Seu in Palma de Majorca, Spain.
The cathedral of Palma de Mallorca, also known as La Seu, is an impressive example of Gothic architecture and an important landmark of the city. Its majestic face is reflected in the adjacent pond, giving the sight an almost fairytale-like quality.
Architecture and history: The cathedral was built in 1229 on the ruins of a former mosque after Mallorca was liberated from the Moors. Construction took several centuries and was only fully completed in the 19th century. With a length of 109.5 meters and a height of 44 meters, it is one of the largest Gothic churches in Europe.
The cathedral not only serves as a place of worship for Mallorcans, but also attracts numerous tourists. The light shows during the Mass of Lights on 2 February and 11 November are particularly remarkable, when the morning sun falls through the rose windows and creates a fascinating play of colors.
The cathedral of Palma de Mallorca is therefore not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a living testimony to the history and culture of Mallorca.
