La Rioja is one of the seventeen autonomous regions and province of Spain. The region is located in the north of the country and borders the Basque Country, Navarre, Aragon and Castile and León. The capital of La Rioja is Logroño, a city of over 150,000 inhabitants.
The Ebro and the Río Oja - to which the region owes its name - flow through this region. Rioja is a type of wine produced in the region of the same name. Tradition has it that Spanish reds mature at the producer's premises and not at the buyer's, so that Riojas always end up "ready to drink" in the glasses.
