the beautiful staircase in the Chabot Museum The Chabot Museum has been housed in one of Rotterdam's most beautiful villas since 1993. This monument of New Building on Museumpark was designed in 1938 by architect G.W. Baas, who had previously worked for many years at the architectural firm Brinkman & Van der Vlugt (known for the Van Nelle Factory, stadion van Feijenoord and Sonneveld House in Rotterdam, among others). Baas left the execution of the construction to L. Stokla when he was appointed coordinator of the construction of the Kröller-Müller Museum on De Hoge Veluwe. The modernist-style villa was originally built as a residence, commissioned by the Kraaijeveld family. Characteristic features of the house are the bright spaces, the openness to the garden and the unique view of the surroundings of the Museum Park. The gardens of the Chabot Museum and the other Museumpark villas form a green oasis in the city centre, where the special Rotterdam architecture from the period of the international New Building can be experienced again.
