Lievendaal is the only villa in the centre of Utrecht and a national monument. The villa was built in 1862 and deliberately placed on a hill so that the residents did not have to look out over the poverty of the neighbouring one-room houses (Bruntskameren).
During her student days (1958-1962) Princess Irene lived on the upper floor.
