Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853 - 1890) was a Dutch painter. His work falls under post-impressionism, an art movement that succeeded nineteenth-century impressionism. Van Gogh decided only at the age of 27 to do what made him famous worldwide: become an artist. In barely ten years (1880-1890), he produced around 900 paintings and 1100 works on paper. He also left behind a correspondence of 902 letters.
