In the landscape artwork “WATER'S WATCHMAN,” a man stands alone in a deserted, parched desert landscape, his gaze fixed on a water tower in the distance. The faded and brittle grass tells the story of prolonged drought and extreme heat.
The man standing guard opposite the water tower symbolizes a guardian of the future, a call to protect and preserve our vital resources against the increasing threats of climate change.
The work is a mixed media artwork consisting of a collage layer and a painted layer, brought together into a single whole.
The figure was painted last over the underlying layers.
I remembered that as a young girl I so much liked to cut images from magazines to paste them into school agendas, scrapbooks and even on my bedroom door. Add to this the fascination I always had for walls filled with old posters, flaking paint, scrappy billboards.. Read more…
