Alkmaar is a beautiful city founded around 1200. It has lots of striking buildings and quaint streets. The best-known buildings are the Grote or Sint Lauwrens Kerk and of course the Waag, surrounded by the Waagplein where the weekly cheese market is organised in the summer.
This photo shows the Waag building with a beautiful sky. Especially around sunset when the lights go on, colouring the sky, the city is at its most beautiful.
Around the Waag are lots of nice restaurants and shops that make the city centre so cosy. There are also a number of old drawbridges across the canals.
In short, this city is more than worth a visit.
