Waldeck Castle. (Germany)
Until 1655 the castle was inhabited by the Counts of Waldeck, who had numerous renovations made, including the high castle wall, and then left for Arolsen.
Since then the castle has been used for several purposes. First it was a fortress and residence of the castle commander, then it served as a barracks, between 1734 and 1868 it was a penitentiary, and then a women's prison. From 1920 the castle was then in the hands of the Waldeckian Domanialverwaltung and has been in public ownership ever since.
