This photo: "Warm colours: Two shells together" is a macro photo of two shells I found on the beach in Lanzarote. These two small shells have beautiful warm colours and nice ridges, creating a nice light-dark contrast as a kind of shadow play.
The composition is different from what you might expect. In this photo, I chose to position the shells so that it looks like the "leaning" shell (left) puts an "arm/hand" around the other shell. I did this because it breaks the static image slightly and there is a movement in it, even if it is small. It creates calmness yet there is a lot to see and the image is not boring. It gives something dynamic.
The colours of the shells are mainly warm brown and brown-orange and are warm in colour. The background falls into the same colour category and therefore matches the subject nicely.
The fact that the background continues into the background creates a calm environment with no horizon line. Here you can see very well how the depth-of-field setting ensures that the further away it is from the focal point, the blurrier it becomes.
This work could hang beautifully in the kitchen, dining room or just above the sofa in the living room, for example!
