Bels Watermill and Mosbeek stream during a beautiful fall day in the Twente region in Overijssel. The Mosbeek Valley is a beautiful nature reserve in northeast Twente, in the municipality of Tubbergen, near the village of Mander.
The valley lies in an ice-pushed ridge landscape (a moraine area from the Ice Age), with rolling hills, forests, heathland, and crystal-clear springs. The Mosbeek stream flows through the valley — it’s fed by several calcareous springs that bubble up from the ground. The Bels Watermill is a historic overshot watermill on the Mosbeek stream. Today, it houses a charming restaurant, but it was built in 1725 as a paper mill, it used the force of the stream to power its waterwheel.
