Willemsbrug (Rotterdam) The Willemsbrug is a bridge over the Nieuwe Maas river in the centre of the Dutch city of Rotterdam, connecting the right bank of the Nieuwe Maas river to the Noordereiland. The current bridge is the second Willemsbrug. The first was designed by C.B. van der Tak, opened in 1878 and named after King Willem III. The second bridge was designed by Cor Veerling and was completed in 1981. Many of the calculations for the new Willemsbrug were made by chief engineer G.C. Berwald.
