Windmill De Adriaan as seen at early morning of July 8th 2017, downtown Haarlem, the Netherlands. It doesn't happen often in the Netherlands, but I was lucky: no wind whatsoever! The river this mill stands at is called the Spaarne and its flowing straight though the city-center. In early days a lot of shipyards dominated this part of town which was at the north entrance of the river, actually the lower part of this mill was oncy a town gate. When no longer needed in the mid 1800's, almost every gate was demolished, exept for two: this one and the Amsterdam gate.
