" Number One: Woman Tuning Shamisen, Yashima Gakutei, c. 1825"

"Vrouw in geknielde houding op de grond, de shamisen (Japans snaarintrument) stemmend. Voor haar liggen twee zangboeken op de grond. Ze zit in een vertrek voor een scherm gedecoreerd met dennentakken. Dit is het rechterblad van een triptiek. Met twee gedichten..'

"A surimono is a luxurious print in which an image is combined with one or more poems. When printing a surimono, thicker paper, blind embossing and metal pigments, such as copper and silver powder were often used. The prints were often commissioned by poets created and given as exclusive gifts to friends and relations."
