The Yamdrok lake lies at 4,441 meters altitude and is the highest freshwater lake in the world. The Yamdrok Tso is one of the four holy lakes in Tibet.
For the Tibetans, the Yamdrok Tso is a pilgrimage site. They believe that it is more a transformation of one or more goddesses.
The many protrusions are reminiscent of the claws of a scorpion, so the Yamdrok-Tso is also called scorpion lake.
