Witch hazel (Hamamelis) is a beautiful and fragrant winter flowering shrub. The shrub develops beautiful golden-yellow leaves in autumn and then flowers on the bare wood in winter with yellow to red flowers. Witch hazels (Hamamelis) are one of the first shrubs to flower in January. Sometimes the flowers appear on the then bare branches as early as December. Other species flower a little later from February, March. The flowers consist of four line-shaped petals, quite long and often twisted. The varieties with yellow flowers are the most common, but there are also beautiful varieties with orange or red flowers.
