About ‘Zeeland traditional costume.’ by anne droogsma

During a Sjeesjerijden race, I came across these wonderful people dressed in traditional Zeeland costume. You can still see traditional dress in various parts of the Netherlands, but perhaps nowhere more so than in Zeeland, on Walcheren. There are still people who wear traditional dress every day, but during special events, they really pull out all the stops when it comes to traditional dress. A great deal of care goes into it, and there are real experts who help the wearers find exactly the right accessories to go with their clothes, as every village has its own special outfit. It is a delight to watch, and this tradition attracts many tourists in the summer, who watch with admiration. Pay particular attention to the decorations on the women’s bonnets and necklaces.
