About ‘along the tidemark’ by Hans Lok

Footsteps in the sand. Close along the water against the low winter sun. Cold by the wind, but with a little warmth from the sun. It doesn't take much more to have a relaxing afternoon where the cobwebs of everyday life can briefly dissipate and the mind becomes clearer again. But also an opportunity to take a moment to reflect on life. What am I doing and does it matter, will I leave more than the footsteps in the sand that have already been washed away by next tide? Am I leaving an impression somewhere that is lasting? Does what I do have meaning? A little further along the beach, you turn around and walk back along the footsteps made earlier. The sun is at your back. Meanwhile, the water has subsided further and the markings are still visible. Perhaps no longer as sharp now that the sand dries but for now the print remains. A reassuring thought.
