A beautiful sailing ship entered the harbor on Urk. It was the Enkhuizen - Urk ferry service. A trip of 2 hours by boat. The Willem-Barentsz sails back and forth several times a day. Urk is a former island and current municipality in the Netherlands. ) Urk is the smallest municipality of the Dutch province of Flevoland in area. Until the dike that connected Urk with Lemmer in 1939, Urk was an island in the IJsselmeer, the former Zuiderzee (until the completion of the Afsluitdijk in 1932). The Noordoostpolder was drained in 1942, but the island feeling is still alive for the inhabitants of Urk.
Urk can be described as the most religious church in the Netherlands. It is a very close community. The local dialect, the Urkers, is still extremely vital and differs a lot from the other dialects in the area. Urk also has its own national anthem. The Urk national anthem is sung mainly during the annual aubade on King's Day and other official occasions. Today, Urk has by far the largest fishing fleet and fish processing industry in the Netherlands.
" It makes me happy to create memories "
I love to photograph in the French or Dutch countryside. Forests, countryside or by the sea. But also cities, towns and villages (especially in France) are my favorites.
Best regards ! Yvonne..
