About ‘braids’ by Denny Stoekenbroek

In Braids, vulnerability meets strength in a sophisticated charcoal drawing that captures the beauty of the human body and detail. The woman is depicted in a sideways pose, face subtly turned away from the viewer. This pose creates an atmosphere of introspection and stillness, almost as if we are witnessing a private moment.

What immediately stands out are the braid details in the hair. The artist has worked out the strands with extreme precision, each hair taking on its own character and direction. The braids contrast with the loose, frayed ends, creating a beautiful play of texture and movement. The hair almost seems to dance on a wind we cannot see.

The skin is tenderly rendered, with smooth transitions between light and shadow revealing the volume of the body. The visible ribs and shoulder lines underline human vulnerability, but never in a confrontational way - rather as a tribute to the complexity of the body. The white background keeps the focus entirely on the figure and enhances the minimalist nature of the work.

Denny Stoekenbroek (b. 1978) is a Dutch artist specialising in expressive charcoal drawings. His work is characterised by a cinematic atmosphere, strong light-dark contrasts and a deep focus on character and emotion. Denny is self-taught and draws inspiration from vintage photography, classic beauty and timeless portraits. His drawings are sold internationally and he gained fame through his participation in the TV programme "Stars on the Screen".

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
