To the exuberantly coloured bulb fields on Goeree Overflakkee. The tulip fields on the nearby islands are also in bloom this month, highly recommended for a beautiful cycle or car trip. Especially during this beautiful period in April of the spring flowers, the colourful fields can be seen from afar almost all over the island of Goeree-Overflakkee.
On Goeree-Overflakkee, approximately 450 hectares of arable land is used for growing bulbs. Cultivation once started on a small scale in and around Ouddorp. In the 1950s, the cultivation of gladiolus was introduced on the island. In the 1960s the cultivation of tulip bulbs gradually took over from the cultivation of gladiolus. The magnificent result now colours the landscape every year.
