I couldn't believe my luck when I came across two huge crane ships near Rotterdam. This industrial fine-art photo captures a special detail of the Thialf, Heerema's iconic semi-submersible crane vessel. A colossus of steel and power. Exactly the kind of raw materials and rugged aesthetic that makes my heart beat faster.
In a sea of mythical names and machines, I saw this giant workhorse looming in a play of light, water and steel. The backlight broke through at just the right moment, revealing an intriguing interplay of lines of tubes, vistas and massive forms-an almost magical scene where brute force meets unexpected elegance.
What makes this picture special are the colours: every conceivable shade of blue, combined with warm rust colours ranging from burnt ochre to deep orange. The skimming light gives extra relief to every detail; it makes tubes visible that normally disappear in shadow and lights up the ship's structure as if it were a sculpture.
Who is this picture for?
For anyone who falls for the beauty of the industrial. For lovers of large structures, raw materials and a tough, powerful look. This picture fits perfectly in a workshop or office, but feels equally at home in a modern, industrial or minimalist living room. An image that comes right in: calm, monumental and full of character.
You should be able to grasp beauty. Give it a face, make it tangible. Choose your art.
I make images that tell a story. It's a quest and a very pleasant hunt. Light, colour and shapes play a big role.
I hope my art ends up with someone..
