The common kingfisher ( alcedo Atthis) is the only kingfisher that occurs up to northern Europe including the Netherlands and Belgium.
The kingfisher is a typical fish-eater and thus bound to water.
The feathers of the head and wings are blue-green and in the middle of the back lighter to cobalt blue.
The feathers on the chest and belly are warm orange.
The males have a black upper and lower bill, the females have a red lower bill and a black upper bill.
