A mudflat is a mudflat or sandflat created in a shallow sea, with an elevation between the normal low and high tide levels of a flat tidal area.
The mud flats or tidal flats usually refers to the wadden region that runs along the coast from Den Helder in the Netherlands, and along the German coast to Esbjerg in Denmark and the 50 Wadden Islands that lie within this coastal strip.
