About ‘the Hope’ by Nico Dam
De Hoop is a cornmill built in 1764 in the town of Gorinchem on the city wall on the Boven-Merwede. It took more than a hundred years before the mill got a name: in 1879 the then unnamed mill was given the name "De Hoop" by the then new owner A.J. van de Water.
