The photos were taken in the plants and at the terrain of Hoechst and Thermphos. Thermphos International B.V. was a venture of the chemical industry, which produced phosphorus and inorganic phosphorus compounds. In 2005 it earned about 550 Million Euros and employed about 1200 people. It was Europe's only producer of elemental phosphorus. The company was also involved in recycling phosphorus After a bankruptcy in November 2012, all activities were stopped and hundreds of workers in Vlissingen-Oost became unemployed. The gouvernment decided to leave a good opportunity to recycle Phosphate in the West-European garbage into elemental phosphorus unused.
