Masquerade on canvas, poster, wallpaper and ArtFrame by Vlindertuin-Art

Masquerade - Specific to a mask is that it allows no facial expressions. It shows one frozen expression, one face behind which the real face is hidden. It instills fear or arouses hilarity, but it itself remains closed. It is unwilling to allow another's gaze access to what lies behind the mask. It allows no two-way traffic in the encounter. Whereas the face we show each other makes fully recognizable who we are and what our intentions are. It also says things that words or gestures cannot express. It shows our joy and happiness, but also our suffering and sorrow, our fear and helplessness. The face speaks its own inalienable language. It makes us the human beings we are. Masquerade is an album of intriguing portraits that explores the complexity of human identity. It raises questions about the duality of human existence, the role of masks in hiding or revealing who we really are, and the tension between the public and the private self. The painting invites the viewer to reflect on the many layers of human expression and the eternal play of identity and disguise in our society.
