I would like to introduce myself. I am Amy Verhoeff, a Dutch artist who is into creating realistic paintings. Since 2019 I live and work in our old long-gable farmhouse in Dommelen that used to belong to my grandparents. My grandfather was also an artist and made sculptures from a mathematical perspective. We converted his old work space into my new studio with an exhibition space. So the building has a family history as well as a cultural history.
For as long as I can remember I have had a love of drawing. In the beginning I only worked with graphite and pastel, but later on I started to paint more and more with oil paint. Both techniques are combined by me by first making a detailed black and white drawing which is later glazed with several transparent oil layers.
My inspiration comes from nature, people in my environment and the old Dutch masters. The combination of people and nature is therefore often seen in my work. What makes my work special is the detailed execution. This is well expressed in the series of paintings with iridescent plastic.
The above comes together in the painting "grandpa" with which I won the Dutch portrait prize 'Young talent award' in 2019.
