Jan WaandersJan Waanders is a self-taught artist from Markelo, originally from Goor. He drew a lot from an early age, but it was his working life as a house painter that occupied him for many years. Around the age of forty, he took up art again in earnest – and never looked back. Jan works mainly in oil paint and watercolour, supplemented by pen drawings and mixed media in which he combines ink with oil paint. His oil paintings are characterised by an impressionistic style with thick, expressive brushstrokes, applied with a palette knife. His watercolours stand out for their intense, saturated colours. A striking blue-green colour palette recurs in both techniques.
